Everything About Starbucks Coffee Sizes In 2024

Customers are more likely to need clarification when looking at the Starbucks menu especially when they are new customers. The main reason for that Starbucks has not given traditional names to its sizes like small, medium, or large. They use their words for sizes from different languages and these are  Demi  || Short  || Tall  || Grande  || Venti || Trenta 

Whenever a customer goes to order at Starbucks, many questions are running through their mind. Are cold drinks bigger than hot ones? Will a larger cup have more caffeine? I will try to answer all these questions in this short article.

Sizes of Starbucks Cups?

1 oz = 29.5735ml

  1. Demi (3 oz  | 89 ml)
  2. Short (8 oz  | 237 ml)
  3. Tall (12 oz  |  355 ml)
  4. Grande (16 oz  | 473 ml)
  5. Venti (20 oz  for hot drinks, 24 oz  for cold drinks | 591-710 ml)
  6. Trenta (31 oz  | 917 ml)

Demi 

Demi is a French word that comes from “demitasse” which means half cup. It is the smallest size ( 3 ounces ) and is used for espresso shots. If you have not been drinking expresso, it is possible that you do not know about demi size. It is the perfect size for espresso one or two shots. 

Short

The short-size cup is available for hot drinks including brewed coffee and espresso drinks also. It is the smallest size that is available for hot drinks it is ( 8 ounces). Short drinks are mostly made with milk with a single or double shot of espresso. A short americano is made with water so it contains a single shot of expresso

Tall

The smallest size available on Starbucks’ regular menu is Tall, which contains (12 ounces). In Tall espresso drinks such as lattes, mochas, or macchiatos, a single shot of espresso is included. The quantity of caffeine is almost the same as that is short but with more milk. A Tall is comparable to two standard six-ounce coffee cups in terms of volume. It is for both hot and cold beverages 

Grande

Starbucks Grande lands in the middle of their size options which contain (16 ounces). Grande is the Italian word that means large. Grande size presents a notable boost in volume compared to Tall, offering customers a more substantial portion of their chosen beverage. This size enables a satisfying and fulfilling drink experience without being excessively large.

Grande espresso drinks at Starbucks typically come with two shots. However, for certain drinks like the Americano and shaken espresso, you get an additional shot, providing a welcome boost with a total of three shots of espresso

Venti

Venti is an Italian word that means 20. A Venti cup contains (20 ounces) for hot drinks and (24 ounces) for cold drinks. In Venti-sized hot drinks at Starbucks, the espresso content remains the same as in a Grande—two shots. The additional space in the Venti is primarily filled with milk and syrup, in most instances. However, the Americano stands out, delivering with four shots of espresso

Why do Venti-sized drinks at Starbucks have different amounts for hot and cold beverages?

In hot drinks, the extra space is filled with more milk and syrup. For cold drinks, it might involve more ice to keep the desired taste. It’s all about adjusting the ingredients to match the drink’s temperature.

Trenta

Tertra is also an Italian word that means 30. This is the largest cup size that you will get at Starbucks. Trenta size contains (31 ounces) (920 mL) of liquid.  However, it’s important to note that the Trenta size is not available for hot drinks, and the specific offerings may vary by location and beverage type. It is available for iced coffees, iced teas, and Refreshers.
